[ Espionage doesn't always lend itself to observing holidays. Missions that lend themselves to deep undercover assignments, paired with a lack of close family to inquire about one's whereabouts, means that Gaby is more than happy to immerse herself in the field whenever it gets to be a certain time of year, that point when an exchange of gifts is expected and snow might be par for the course depending on the hemisphere. She doesn't have to worry about celebrating Christmas if she doesn't put herself in a position to think about Christmas.

It's not a subject she's ever broached with the other two-thirds of her team, and even as the year continues to wind down she finds ways to change the topic so that it never successfully comes up. For most of December, they're in Bogotá anyway, partly so Solo and Illya could investigate the workings of a leftist guerrilla group while Gaby mostly works on practicing her Spanish. Even once Waverly pronounces the mission closed and puts them on a flight to London, she's convinced she's in the clear, that she's made it through the bulk of the season unscathed.

It's only when the call comes in informing them that they can take the rest of the week off that she casts a wary glance in the direction of the hotel suite's clock: it's December 31st, with seven minutes to go until midnight. Conveniently, she's already at the drink cart, and pours herself a few fingers of scotch before deciding to hold onto the bottle too.

Happy new year, indeed. ]
